FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Child Safety in Public Areas Improved Through the Use of Technology
March 4th, 2008
A range of innovative technology services specifically designed for child protection in public spaces or at major events and outings has been developed by DataSMS Limited, a UK firm based in Northumberland. The Tag n Go software suite, based on the firm’s own web-based software application, uses a silicone wristband which helps to locate a child if they become lost in a large crowd or an unfamiliar place.
Tripsafe uses the wristband, distributed to children before a day trip, to locate the child if they become separated from the group. The child can activate their wristband using their own mobile phone or with the help of an adult, by sending a SMS message containing a keyword and band number, to a short code provided on the band. The Group Leader then receives a message to say the child has been found, as well as the mobile number of the ‘Finder’ who sent the original SMS. The Finder is also sent a message informing them the Group Leader will be in contact soon. The service is ideal for schools, outward bound centres and leisure organisations, as well as voluntary groups and vulnerable adults. Internationally formatted wristbands, suitable for overseas trips, are also available.
Swift-e is an innovative solution that is suitable for theme parks, outdoor events, shopping centres and child activity centres. After texting SWIFT and the wristband number to 60066 from your mobile and receiving a confirmation text in return, the wristband can be attached to a child’s arm before starting a journey or upon arriving at a destination. If the child becomes separated they can ask a responsible adult to text SWIFT and the unique band number. The mobile number of the ‘Finder’ is then texted to the parent or guardian, allowing them to be reunited with the child. As with Tripsafe, internationally formatted wristbands are available.
Tag n Go has a range of clients that include schools, SureStart Children’s Centres, youth organisations and various retailers in UK. Many have also provided testimonials for the service and its importance to the organisation;
Mr. Colin Fawcus, Regional Sales Manager North, DFDS Seaways Limited
"After seeing the product in action, and the reliable and instantaneous response demonstrated in both in the UK and in the Netherlands, I would have no hesitation in recommending the International Swift-e as an efficient and cost-effective way to help towards a speedy re-unite between adults and their separated child or loved ones, whilst on a short international break or holiday."Mr Michael Wilcock, Head Teacher, Star of the Sea RC School, Whitley Bay
“Tripsafe will enable us to provide our pupils with an extra layer of education, by informing them about the possibilities of separation, prior to taking part in any school trip or outdoor activity. With the inclusion of Tripsafe, we can now offer our pupils a clear course of action should they need it, thus ensuring peace of mind for everyone.”Alison Ashley, Nursery Manager, SureStart Shiremoor Children’s Centre
“We have hundreds of nursery trips and outings every year and it’s tremendously important that children and group leaders have a real strategy for dealing with anyone who gets separated from a group”Mr. Rob Smith, North Tyneside Council, Health and Safety Advisor for OAA (Outdoor Adventures & Activities)
“I would support the use of Tripsafe by our schools on any educational visit. Tripsafe is a simple, secure and efficient electronic system which supports the safe recovery of students with staff, who may become lost during a school outing. The system also enables privacy for group leaders, regarding personal mobile telephone information.”
A third service, Tag n Go accounts, provide individual or multiple wristbands to wearers of any age, providing information that could include medical conditions, allergies, next of kin or contact details. In an emergency, the ‘Finder’ of the wristband can send an SMS to a short code. The information stored in the account is then sent back to the Finder by SMS.

Additional information about the technology and its use in various situations, including extensive media coverage about the service, can be found at www.tagngo.co.uk.
