Sevenoaks District Council to sign Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change on Monday October 8th

Sevenoaks District Council has confirmed that they will be signing the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change (NDCC) on Monday October 8, 2007.

The council already has a dedicated Energy Conservation Officer and are members of the Kent Energy Efficiency Partnership (KEEP) and the Kent Energy Centre.

There are over 250 local councils that have signed the declaration. In the declaration, they acknowledge that evidence continues to mount that climate change is occurring and that it is effecting the UK economy.

They commit to:

• Work with central government to deliver a climate change programme
• Create a plan in the local community to address the causes and effects of climate change
• Publicly declare the goals of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
• Work with key providers of services in the community to the same goals
• Provide opportunities for development of renewable energy generation within the community
• Monitor the plans progress and publish the results.

The NDCC is endorsed by Central Government, the Energy Savings Trust and the Local Government Association.
