FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Public Sector and construction industry sign Fair Payment Charter
December 10th , 2007
Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK
The public sector purchases over 30% of the construction industry in the UK. In the past there have been disputes between private contractors and the public sector purchasing bodies.
Now a new charter has been signed to help reduce conflict and make the process more transparent. The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) has created a “Fair Payment” Charter that sets new standards to help reduce withholding of retentions, create more efficient payment procedures, have payments made within 30 days and make the process more transparent.
The Fair Payment Charter has been endorsed by the government and signed by the OCG, the Local Government Taskforce, Construction Industry Council, Construction Federation and National Specialist Contractors Council.
The charter covers the public sector buyers, their construction contractors as well as the supply chain members of a specific project.
To learn more about this charter, go to www.ogc.gov.uk.
