Hinged lampposts are being inspected after accident that injured a 13 year old

A 13 year old was hit and hospitalized for a week by a falling hinged lamppost in Morecambe.

These types of lampposts are hinged at the base to allow it to be lowered for maintenance.

This accident has put into question the safety of hinged lampposts. 700 other hinged lampposts are now being inspected by the council. Safety experts are now inspecting the safety mechanisms used to secure the lampposts. In the interim, steel bands have been placed around the bases of hinged lampposts to secure them.
