FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Colchester council spends nearly over £500,000 on cleaning up smoking
September 18, 2007
Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK
Colchester Council has reacted to the added cigarette related litter after the English smoking ban by purchasing £500,000 of new street sweeping machines and 40 dual purpose litter bins that can also take cigarette butts for £7,500. This is on top of the nearly £1 million spend on street cleaning each year.
The council also is trying to educate and penalize those that do cigarette related litter. They have 40 community street wardens that are authorized to issue up to £75 on the spot fines.
This is where www.buyersguide.co.uk helps the UK public sector. There are dozens of companies offering smoking shelters, cigarette litter bins, outdoor heaters, cleaning products and cleaning services to the public sector.
Buyers Guide has been helping private companies get access to government contracts since 1996. The Buyers Guide “profile” system allows government procurement specialists to quickly find companies that have government experience, the pre-qualification standards and a willingness to work with the public sector in one place saving time, effort and ultimately money.
